ABOUT ME
I’m Maria McGreger, a bilingual (Spanish) Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Jennifer Galske Reid, M.S., L.P.C-S, and Dr. Andrew Brams, PHD, LSSP. I’m passionate about providing holistic care tailored to your unique values, beliefs, and needs. I use a blend of approaches to help you understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I have received specialized training in trauma, grief, art, and sand tray therapy. My goal is to provide you with the tools and insights necessary for personal growth and lasting change.
From the Art World to the Healing Space
Before becoming a counselor, my career began in the arts—as an artist, art historian, consultant, and educator in museums and galleries. Over time, I felt a deep desire to connect more intimately with others and support them in their healing process. I found that creative expression, long celebrated in cultural spaces, could also be a powerful tool for emotional transformation.
What I had experienced anecdotally was later backed by research: art can significantly support healing from depression, anxiety, and trauma. I now integrate this knowledge into therapy sessions, especially when working with clients who benefit from creative modalities.
What to Expect in Our Work Together
In our sessions, we may explore creative and therapeutic processes that engage the mind and body—enhancing memory, cognitive function, and emotional resilience. This can be particularly effective for older adults and those who process experiences in nonverbal ways. Whether or not art plays a central role, I will always tailor our approach to meet your needs and comfort level.
I am deeply committed to ongoing professional growth, ensuring that you receive care informed by the latest research and best practices in trauma and mental health.
